Fertility Acupuncture

CONDITIONS I SPECIALIZE IN

Fertility challenges rarely exist in isolation. Most of my patients come in with a named diagnosis or a gut sense that something is off that their labs haven't fully explained yet. These are the conditions I work with most.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) PCOS is one of the most common causes of anovulatory infertility — but it's also one of the most responsive to integrative treatment. Acupuncture and herbal medicine can help regulate cycles, improve insulin sensitivity, reduce androgens, and restore ovulation.

Endometriosis Endometriosis affects implantation, egg quality, and the entire pelvic environment, not just pain. My approach addresses the blood stasis and inflammatory patterns at the root of the condition, working to reduce systemic inflammation, support the luteal phase, and create a more receptive uterine environment.

Diminished Ovarian Reserve (DOR) & Elevated FSH A low AMH or high FSH is not a closed door, it's information. Treatment focuses on improving the ovarian environment, supporting mitochondrial function in maturing follicles, and addressing the Kidney deficiency patterns that TCM associates with diminished reserve. This work takes time, which is why starting 3 months before retrieval matters most for this population.

Unexplained Infertility "Unexplained" in Western medicine means your standard labs came back normal. In TCM, it means we look deeper, at cycle quality, luteal phase length, basal body temperature patterns, digestion, sleep, stress load, and constitutional patterns that don't show up on an standard panel. This is often where integrative medicine has the most to offer.

Recurrent Pregnancy Loss Losing pregnancies is one of the most painful and disorienting fertility experiences , and it's frequently under-addressed. I work with patients experiencing recurrent loss to identify and treat contributing patterns: luteal phase insufficiency, immune dysregulation, blood stasis, clotting factors, inflammation, infections and the systemic terrain that may be affecting implantation and early embryo support.

Short Luteal Phase & Luteal Phase Defect Adequate progesterone support in the second half of the cycle is essential for implantation and early pregnancy maintenance. A short or insufficient luteal phase is a common finding that responds well to targeted acupuncture and herbal support timed to the cycle.

Natural Conception Support Not everyone comes in with a diagnosis. Some patients simply want to optimize, to give their body the best possible environment for conception before they start trying, or after months of trying without success. This is some of the most satisfying work I do. Whole-system preparation, cycle tracking integration, and removing the obstacles that are quietly in the way.

THE TCM LENS

What Chinese medicine sees that labs don't capture.

Western reproductive medicine is exceptional at structure but Traditional Chinese Medicine adds a functional layer. Pattern diagnosis reveals systemic imbalances that contribute to poor outcomes but don't always show up on bloodwork.

Common TCM patterns I see in fertility patients:

  • Kidney Yin and Jing deficiency : often underlying poor egg and sperm quality, low ovarian reserve, low estrogen, short cycles, and signs of deficient heat like night sweats and a dry cervical environment

  • Kidney Yang deficiency : associated with poor response to stimulation, cold constitution, low progesterone, low testosterone, poor sperm motility, low libido and a luteal phase that struggles to sustain early pregnancy

  • Liver Qi stagnation : shows up in stress, irregular cycles, pain, PMS, PMDD, endometriosis-related patterns, and unstable progesterone in the luteal phase

  • Blood deficiency : insufficient nourishing blood to build a healthy lining, support follicle development, or sustain early pregnancy. Common after multiple cycles, pregnancy loss, digestive issues, heavy periods or chronic blood-consuming conditions like endometriosis

  • Blood stasis: a central pattern in endometriosis, fibroids, clotting disorders, hypercoagulability, and autoimmune-driven vascular disruption to the reproductive tract and implantation issues

  • Spleen Qi deficiency :often connected to thin lining, fatigue, and poor nutrient absorption

  • Phlegm damp : obstructs the flow of Qi and blood through the reproductive tract; frequently seen in PCOS, cystic ovaries, obesity-related infertility, and sluggish cycles

  • Damp-heat in the Lower Jiao : associated with inflammation, PCOS, and pelvic infections, endometritis and endometriosis

  • Wei Qi dysregulation: when the body's protective Qi is dysregulated, immune tolerance breaks down; clinically relevant in recurrent implantation failure, elevated NK cell activity, autoimmune thyroid conditions, and unexplained recurrent pregnancy loss

  • Heart-Kidney disconnect : reflects HPA axis dysregulation, anxiety, the nervous system burden of fertility treatment, and progesterone instability driven by chronic stress

These patterns don't replace your lab results, they sit alongside them, giving us a fuller picture of what your body needs to respond well to treatment.

Acupuncture for Fertility Sessions

We recommend our holistic fertility acupuncture patients to come in for weekly or biweekly acupuncture sessions for 3-6 months prior to trying to conceive in order to give your body adequate time to prepare for conception. The reason for this is it takes an egg 90 days to mature before ovulation. Starting acupuncture and embracing holistic health practices sooner can significantly enhance the quality of eggs and conception outcomes.
